What spray foam does during storms
Closed-cell foam bonds to the underside of the roof deck and adds stiffness, and a sealed attic keeps wind-driven rain from blowing in through soffit and ridge vents. It isn't a substitute for a properly nailed roof deck and a sound roof covering.
Spray foam after storm damage
If a storm damaged your roof, fix leaks and replace wet or damaged decking before any foam goes on. Wet insulation from leaks should be removed. A new roof is a good time to add foam, because the decking is new and dry.
Spray foam and fortified roofs
If you're applying for a Louisiana Fortify Homes grant or planning a fortified roof, talk to your roofer before adding foam. Roof deck inspections and nailing checks are part of the process, so timing matters.

Spray foam insulation questions
Does spray foam make a roof hurricane-proof?
No. Closed-cell foam can add stiffness, but the roof's nailing and covering are what resist wind.
Should I add foam before or after a new roof?
After. Foam should go on new, dry decking, and roof inspections are easier before the deck is covered.
